Winning Is Fun
I am sometimes accused of wanting to win too much. "Shouldn't the real goal be to have fun?"
Winning is fun.
I mean, yes, it's not much fun when your opponent just gets mana screwed and you roll over him. You know what's less fun than winning that way? Losing that way. Opponents often wish me good luck before we play. I never do. I don't want them to have it. I don't hope for them to get mana screwed (usually), but if there's going to be any luck involved, I want to be the recipient. (I usually do wish them luck in future rounds after our match.) My goal (and guess what, it's your goal too, even if you don't realize it) is to win. When that goal is thwarted, I have less fun. I don't have zero fun, or else I'd never play, but winning is invariably more fun than losing. So if winning is the maximum fun, then losing even a little detracts from that. So my goal is to have the most fun. By winning. Winning is fun.
